After you have responded to the previous thread (Q3a), consider this question, in preparation for next Sunday's lesson.

Take a stand and defend your position. Attachments:

I think belief comes first, because, if reason comes first, then reason may be wrong. Also, reason may be wrong while belief is just belief, unlike what your opinion may be. Your belief usually cannot harm you, for it is just what you want to believe in, unlike reason, which people can correct you about. This is why belief comes first, then comes reason, because of the beliefs people believe in reason, may be different from what you think it is.

Reason comes first, because faith and reason are tied together. When people think something is unreasonable they will not believe it. If you believe in the wrong thing it will harm you in some way or another, whether you feel it or not. Through the guidance of reason you will be able to discover and understand truth, which you can happily and safely believe in, because it has been proven by logic. Humans by nature and logical creatures and require reason to explain the things around them. As long as you have a reason, you can do something so it is the same with the idea of reason and belief. If you believe blindly, there is a high likelihood that you will not have faith in it, because there is no reason behind it. The reason why Christians believe in Christ, is because they have a reason behind it, it is that Christ died for their sins, so reason always goes before belief. Truth comes from logic and reason but not from belief. When you have reason then you have belief. That is why when you claim something, people ask you for the reason before they could decide whether to believe you or not.

I would pick…reason. The reason why we who believe, believe, is because of God. Ephesians 2:8 says that “for by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” John 6:44 also says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.” Yes, we have been saved through faith/belief, but it was God Himself who gave us the ability to believe in the first place.

I pick belief. It would be hard to reason if we didn't know what was true or false. When we believe first, we find what truth is and begin to reason accordingly. Luke 10:27 says to "love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind..." The heart comes first and the mind last.
